Kite Puerto Velero is one of two schools operating directly on the Puerto Velero bay, the classic kitesurf spot in the Atlántico. Run by Andrés Pereira — known as both an excellent rider and a genuinely kind person — the school offers lessons for all levels on the bay's flat, shallow waters, where beginners can stand as they wade in. One unique detail: Andrés's mother runs a kite-repair workshop on-site, sewing and patching gear for years.
The school is also the preferred starting point for the 6. 2 mi (10 km) downwind run to Salinas del Rey. Wind typically picks up between 9-10 a.
m. and holds until sunset.
