La Plaza de Puerto Colombia, known as Plaza Francisco Javier Cisneros, is the heart of Puerto Colombia's historic center, just steps from the iconic Muelle de 1888, a landmark of the region's port history. Spanning more than 30,000 square meters, this square is a hub of cultural immersion where visitors can enjoy festivals and events, including performances of Caribbean rhythms and dance such as cumbia and mapalé, especially during the Carnaval de Barranquilla. On weekends, the square comes alive with tropical music and a seafood trail offering fresh seafood, empanadas, arepa e' huevo (a fried corn cake with a whole egg cooked inside), and the refreshing raspao (shaved ice with fruit syrup).
Local craft markets are a great place to pick up unique souvenirs like woven textiles and jewelry, supporting local artisans. Its closeness to the Malecón del Mar makes it ideal for pairing with walks and photography. Tips: Visit at sunset to catch the sea breeze and the chic nighttime atmosphere.
Bring cash for shopping and try the local specialties. Getting there: From Barranquilla, take a bus or taxi to Puerto Colombia (20 min). The square is downtown, near the pier.
