Finding a place to stay for the Barranquilla Carnival is not hard — it is hard late. Hotels in the north of the city fill up months in advance and rates rise noticeably during the four main days. This guide helps you choose an area and book with formal providers listed in Atlántico's official directory.
When to book for Carnival 2027
Carnival 2027 runs from Saturday 6 to Tuesday 9 February. The recommendation is to book 4 to 6 months ahead, meaning before October 2026. From December onwards, what is left tends to be pricier and worse located, and many hotels require a minimum stay of several nights on those dates.
Two practical warnings: confirm the cancellation policy before paying, and check that the property holds a valid National Tourism Registry (RNT) number. Every hotel listed below is part of the department's official provider directory.
El Prado and Alto Prado: the most convenient area
This is the best mix of location, restaurants and transport. You are close to Vía 40 (where the Battle of Flowers and the Grand Parades take place) and to Carrera 44, the Guacherna route. El Prado is also one of Colombia's first planned neighbourhoods, and its 1920s mansions are a National Monument.

Northern Alto Prado (calles 84 to 90): price and location balance
A little further north you will find hotels with somewhat more contained rates, still a short taxi ride from the parades and surrounded by restaurants and shopping centres.

Villa Country, Riomar and Buenavista: quiet and modern
The northern area (calles 94 to 106) is the newest and quietest part of the city. You will need a taxi or ride app to reach the parades, but in exchange you sleep well — which matters after four days of partying.

Sleeping by the sea and commuting to the parades
This is what many locals do: the Atlántico coast is 20–60 minutes from Barranquilla, rates tend to be more reasonable and you rest facing the Caribbean. It works well if you have a car or arrange transport in advance.
- Puerto Colombia (20–25 min): Hotel Pradomar, Sites Barranquilla, Hotel Marriott Barranquilla at Portal del Genovés, Hotel Imagine Beach and Apartaestudios Mar de Kirá. Get to know the town in the Puerto Colombia guide.
- Tubará (45 min): Isla Verde and Hotel Explore Caño Dulce, near Puerto Velero and Caño Dulce.
- Juan de Acosta — Santa Verónica and Salinas del Rey (1 hour): Guacamaya Kite Lodges, Kokohau Bungalows, Kite Ecohouse, Casas Mambo Salinas, Hotel Brees, Hostal Campomar and Casa Agua Vela. This is kitesurf country; see the beaches section.
- Usiacurí (45 min): Ankua Eco Hotel and Ecohotel Summer, in the iraca-palm handicraft town.
- Piojó and Luruaco: Hotel Tambo Marina (Playa Punta Astillero) and Hotel Tucagua.
There are also options in Baranoa (Hotel Manzanares, Hotel Baranoa Plaza) and Malambo (Las Olas de Malambo), useful if your plan includes the Tradition Route through the towns.
How to check that your accommodation is legitimate
During Carnival season, informal offers, overbooking and up-front payments that go unanswered are common. To avoid them:
- Check the Atlántico provider directory: registered hotels, agencies, guides and restaurants with their official contact details.
- Ask for the RNT number and confirm it before transferring any money.
- Buy grandstand seats only through the Carnival's official channels or RNT-registered operators. As a 2026 reference, Vía 40 grandstands ranged from around COP 99,000 (mini-stands) to about COP 595,000 for VIP locations, as a multi-day package.
- Read the safe tourism recommendations before you travel.
Checklist before booking
- Air conditioning. Barranquilla sits around 30–33 °C in February.
- Actual distance to Vía 40 and Carrera 44, not just the neighbourhood the listing advertises.
- Minimum stay. Many hotels require 4 or 5 nights on those dates.
- Breakfast included. During Carnival several restaurants close or change their hours.
- Flexible cancellation policy, especially if you buy tickets separately.
- Parking if you are driving: there are extensive road closures during the parades.
In short
If this is your first Carnival and you want to walk to the parades, aim for El Prado or Alto Prado and book before October. If you would rather rest and do not mind a taxi, the northern area works very well. And if you are travelling by car and in a group, sleeping on the coast is better value and adds a beach to the plan.
